A great website design can be a powerful tool for establishing a brand. In the hotel business, a website gives the chance to present the services and atmosphere that is being offered to the target group.
This collection demonstrates how hotel websites can incorporate beautiful design and target their audience in the right way.
During my search for inspiring hotel website designs, I encountered a surprisingly high number of luxury hotel websites that fail to accomplish the simple aim of beautifully presenting their facilities. It seems that online presence is still fairly underestimated although the number of direct online bookings are increasing.
Many hotel websites restrict their design to a clean, elegant but also mostly boring layout. Many use very small fonts, white backgrounds and show no effort to indulge the user. Of course, there are different target groups, from business to luxury, but each should be targeted in the best design way possible – after all it’s the hotel’s image that gets exposed here.
Many of the great design websites use flash to create nice effects especially with photos. In some pages this creates a long waiting time and I can also imagine that they are not SEO friendly. But for now, I want to focus on the overall impression, functionality of hotel websites might be another post topic.
Strangely, being a 5-star luxury hotel does not necessarily imply that the website can be categorized as such. On the contrary – many famous and glamorous hotels cannot really shine with their web presence. There is a lot do do and remake, designers!
Enough of talking, here are the hotel website designs that, in my opinion, do a great job in presenting their brand!
Enjoy!
1. http://www.littlepalmisland.com/
This is the first example for successfully transmitting the atmosphere of the resort. It is light, the containers are semi-transparent and the background is completely filled with tropical photos which just makes you want to jump into the water. It conveys the feeling: I want to be there!

2. http://www.palms.com/
The Palms Hotel in Las Vegas is another example of “I want to be there”. It shows a great video which puts you in party mood and gives you the idea that staying in their hotel means fun and excitement.
3. http://www.silvertoncasino.com/
Another Las Vegas Hotel/Casino website that impresses with vivid colors and a clear profile. It has a clean layout and despite of providing many pieces of information it is not cluttered.
4. http://www.plaza-athenee-paris.com/
This is the website of the Plaza Athene Hotel in Paris which is part of the Dorchester Collection. It has a unique style for every of it’s hotels (see the next one) but it keeps it’s great layout for each of them. The other hotels can be chosen from the neat image navigation.
5. http://www.beverlyhillshotel.com/
Another example of the Dorchester Collection websites.
6. http://www.wynnlasvegas.com/
Simply colored and a clear structure and with a touch of luxury – that’s the Wynn Website.
7. http://www.summithotels.com
An example of a compact accordion navigation (that could have been done with jQuery).
8. http://www.ariahotel.net/
This one’s design might not be a knock-out, but that playable piano at the top is just genius!
9. http://www.hollmann-beletage.at/
This is an example of vivid colors and a modern look. The navigation has a touch of sophisticated detail.
10. http://www.epichotel.com
A modern look in gray, beautifully clean.
11. http://www.sacher.com/
It looks just like a “Sacher Torte” cake package!
12. http://www.hotel-oxford.ro/
What a beautiful design! It’s a one page layout without scrolling, without clutter and sliding content. It conveys the modern and simplistic style of the hotel so well. Love it!
13. http://www.whitebarninn.com/
Another clean and simple design with a touch of romantic luxury.
14. http://www.faenahotelanduniverse.com/
I just want to keep it open and listen to the music! Although flash websites are very heavy it can be a really nice web experience when constructed well.
15. http://www.peninsula.com/
This design conveys tradition, history and professionalism. Check out the “Visiting for” accordion content.
16. http://www.themirahotel.com
This seems to be a modern hotel. Check out the unique cube navigation. It’s eye candy.
17. http://www.steinlodge.com/
This hotel website has a nice frame and a neat effect when hovering over the image or navigation.
18. http://ritz.com/
Royal Blue – beautifully luxurious looking design.
19. http://www.hotelpiazzadispagnarome.com/
Contrary to luxurious, but clean and simple presentation.
20. http://www.campbellgrayhotels.com
A nice example of a hotel chain website. Check out how the colors fade when choosing a hotel from the left menu.
21. http://www.florahospitality.com/
An elegant ans simple design with decent colors.
22. http://www.thecarlyle.com/
This design combines elegance with freshness. Notice how the colors of the image complement to the whole design.
23. http://www.hotelchandler.com
I love the color and pattern combination of this New York hotel! It is very unique and it is a very inspirational color scheme.
24. http://www.sabisabi.com/
I love this one! It is not an award winning design but the colors are beautifully fitting and guess what? A slide show and a slide out navigation and NO FLASH! Congratulations to that and enjoy the fast loading time!
I hope you liked the collection! Feel free to contribute with your discoveries.

All these images work very well to demonstrate the sort of hotel they represent and what a potential customer could expect if they stayed at each of these hotels. That is exactly what they should do.

I really like couple of them, but the rest are just too similar to one another, and not that inspiring 4 me!
Thanks for the inspiration.
Silverton (#3) won me by far. Others were nice and clean as well.
Nice reference. Check out http://www.pod.co.za which is a new boutique-style hotel opening in March in Camps Bay, South Africa. We built the website. Hope you enjoy it.
Awesome compilation of designs. Favorited.
Hi everybody, I’m just working on a hotel website these days and I appreciated your nice list. Check out this: http://tinyurl.com/yllxlfq great photo and really clean design.
I think, you should include this one: http://felixzawojski.com/
nice collection.
It would be interesting to now go and visit the above hotels to see how the actual experience matches. I’m wondering how many of them were designed in isolation with inputs from brand and stakeholders but without the influence of what a first time end user experiences when ‘walking through the door’
That’s an interesting thought. Maybe one can pull that info from some hotel rating site. Usually the guests leave some impressions that could reveal the character of the hotel and then they could be compared to their “online representation”. Cheers and thanks for your comment!
Can I suggest a lovely 8 rooms hotel, my favorite one in Brighton ! http://www.snoozebrighton.com
Love that site !
http://www.faenahotelanduniverse.com/ is reporting trojan horse, anyway nice collection though.
some of those just don’t deserve to be in the list. disappointed to see an unconvincing list 🙁
I am very sorry that it is dissapointing for your 🙁 . It is a list of what I considered to be the hotel pages that were most successful in showing their hotel character. Which ones didn’t you like?
I agree, some of these are horrible (the Ritz – bleugh!) and others just look dated.
Very nice list with impressive websites!
Take a look at http://www.corallodge1541.com. It is a luxury resort with lodges which opened last month in Mozambique.
I was sad to see your site was down earlier. I love the sites that are highlighted but I think there is a site that you MUST add as well: MGM Grand. It keeps visitors locked on the site wanting more. The interactive video is also a nice little touch not many of the other sites are using.
Thanks again for this line up!
Hi Chris,
we had some temporary down time today but everything is fixed now 🙂 The MGM Grand is definetely a great site and I will feature it in an additional article with all the other suggestions. Thanks for your feedback!
You’re spot on with your intro to this post, so many hotels fail to capture the vibe and features of their property/offering in their website. In addition to the design lacking, I can’t believe how many fail in properly listing amenities and details that matter to a consumer.
I would say only about half of these 24 did anything for me. Great post though highlighting a specific vertical in web design.
Hi,
I fine your comments on the hotel websites great.
If i could have some comments on the following hotel website :
http://www.beachcomber-hotels.com/
It would be great.
Thank you for adding our website to your list.
We relaunched our website a couple of days ago, and would like to know what you think about the new version:

Hello Josef,
I really like your website, the whole style looks very modern and welcoming. The menu with its shadow and opacity is really nice. Just the hover color is very similar to the background, and some fonts look very small, too. I made a screenshot how it looks in my browser, I hope it helps! Cheers, ML
